These connect directly. 20 mm pond hosetail mates with Jubilee clip size 1A without an adapter.

A 20 mm pond hose stretched over a hosetail measures around 22 to 30 mm outside, so a Jubilee size 1A clamps it correctly. Fit the clip over the barbed section, not the plain hose, so the barbs bite as it tightens.

Measure the outside diameter with the hose already on the barb; it swells a few millimetres. A clip sized to the bare hose is too small and will not close.
