A 3/4 NPT pump or spigot reaches a garden hose through a 3/4-NPT-to-GHT adapter. The NPT end seals on the tapered thread with PTFE tape; the GHT end seals on a washer in the hose coupling.
Tape the NPT end only. Never tape the GHT washer end; it stops the washer seating and causes the leak it was meant to prevent.
